Supplies of medicines for the Kerala government hospitals and pharmacies are in trouble as the state government is yet to set up the proposed corporation for purchase of medicines and other consumables. The Kerala government had earlier planned to start a corporation based on the Tamil Nadu model for the procurement of medicines. Though the government proposed this project with great interest, no steps have been taken by the concerned officials in this regard. At the same, functioning of the Central Purchasing Committee has also come to standstill. With CPC remaining inactive and delay in forming the corporation, purchases and supplies of medicines have come to a halt in the state, sources from the Kerala Government Pharmacists Association said. "Only local purchases of medicines are taking place now. Most of the important medicines are unavailable in the hospitals and government pharmacies. Such a negligent attitude would harm the people who come in for treatment. The government should resolve this issue as soon as possible" KGPA sources said. Meanwhile the several posts of superintendents are remaining vacant for a long time making matters worse. There are 33 vacancies to be filled as of now. The government has not been showing any interest in filling these vacancies. This will have a negative impact on the purchase of medicines as these staff members play a vital role in purchasing and supplying the medicines, said sources. To protest against this negligent attitude and demanding the government to resolve these issues at the earliest, the KGPA members will be staging a Dharna next month in front of the District Medical Office's in the State and in front of the Directorate of Health in Trivandrum. Around 3,000 members of the KGPA will take part in the dharna. A notice highlighting their demand will be given to the Chief Minister, Health Minister and Finance Minister

RESTRAIN FROM THE MOVE TO ISSUE QUALIFIED PERSON CERTIFICATES

RESTRAIN FROM THE MOVE TO ISSUE QUALIFIED PERSON CERTIFICATES

The Federation of Indian Pharmacists’ Organisations (FIPO) demanded the Central Govt. to restrain from the move to issue Qualified Person (Q.P) certificates to the salesmen employing in the medical shops and to abandon the discussion between the Central Petroleum and Chemicals Minister Ramvilas Paswan and the drug traders organization, AIOCD for this purpose, in a joint statement issued by the National Vice President G.K.Harishchandran Nair and Kerala State General Secretary A.S.Rajeevkumar.

Drug Traders are frequently trying to materialized their agenda of getting free trade facility of drugs through non technical persons. All countries in the world, including the under developed countries enforced various parameters to curb the unsafe and unscientific handling of drugs by non technical persons to safeguard the public health, wherein in India such legislations are very feable and hence, the occurance of various health hazards. Due to the free handling of drugs through unsafe hands leads to irrational administration of drugs as well as abuse and that surmounts the incidence of morbidity status, especially in Kerala where resistant epidemics are often, which is a alarming situation. The service of the Pharmacists who is mandatory in the places storing and selling drugs in India and in all other countries, is namesake in Kerala, the largest market of drugs.

Certain drugsa like Rosiglitazone, Nimuselide etc.,are still available in Indian market, because it is stated that there are no evidences of harm in India! Profit oriented mafia in the drug industry and trade are too eager to evade the existing laws to regulate the drug trade by pressurizing the Central Govt. for the implementation of the Q.P. certificate which is quite against the WHO directions and the modalities adopted by other countries in the world. The member organizations of the FIPO, Kerala Govt. Pharmacists’ Association, Kerala Private Pharmacists’ Association and Kerala Self Employed Pharmacists’ Association, declares that a nationwide agitation will be organised against this inhumane attitude of the Central Govt.
